| Extra mailboxes take a little more organising than just using the default mailbox, however once you understand the basic principal it is very simple to use extra mailboxes efficiently.
| An Example Of Using Extra Mailboxes

| Setting up extra mailboxes is done as follows:
| Step 1. |
| Go to the Portal site at: http://www.plus.net, log in with your username and password and then click in the 'My Services ', then click on to the 'Extra Mailboxes' option.
| Enter an alias name (this will be the word before the '@' symbol in the new address) and then enter the password for this extra mailbox. You will need to enter both the alias name and also the password and ensure that the box to the right of the username says 'mailbox' rather than either of the other options.
| Step 2.
| You now need to wait ideally 24 hours for the new mailboxes to be fully created on the servers, the mailboxes will be created on the servers at 4am, so this is the earliest that the new mailbox will come online.
| Step 3.
| Now that the mailboxes have been created it is merely a case of updating your email program to take advantage of these changes. There is one main mail program that is perticularly good at handling multiple mailboxes, Microsoft Outlook Express. This is the program that you would be well advised to use when setting up extra mail accounts. The rest of these instructions on how to set up extra mailboxes is aimed at Outlook Express (although if you wish to set up mailboxes for other programs the following steps will also help).
| A: Start up Outlook Express and cancel the connection to Plus.Net
| B: Click on to the Tools menu and then on the Accounts option.
| C: In the top right hand corner is a button marked Add..., click on this and then on the Mail... option.
| D: It will ask you for your name, when people receive a message from you this name will be shown as being the sender, enter your name and click Next.
| E: It will now ask you for the email address, this will be in the form of mailboxname@username.plus.com , then click Next
F: It will now ask you for the Incoming Mail Server and Outgoing Mail Server, they are as follows:
- The Incoming Mail Server is a POP3 server
- Incoming Mail Server : mail.plus.net
- Outgoing Mail Server : relay.plus.net
- now please Click Next
G: This is the most important stage:
- The Account Name will be in the form of: username+mailboxname
- The password is the password for the extra mailbox
- now please Click Next
| H: Now to choose the connection type, select Connect using my phone line and Click Next
| I: Selecting your modem, your modem should be listed in the box automatically, so leave this as it is.
| J: Next you need to tell your computer which connection to use, make sure that 'Use an existing dial up networking connection' is selected and that you have the connection set as either 'F9', 'PlusNet' or 'Force9', now click Next.
| K: Nearly there now! You should now be shown a screen saying "Congratulations!...", the mailbox has now been set up. Click on Finish
| Step 4.
| Next we just need to identify your account. In the 'Internet Accounts' screen which you should now be looking at click on 'Properties'. At the top of the 'General' tab is the 'Mail Account' option, it should say something along the lines of: 'mail.plus.net', delete this and enter a name to identify this extra mailbox to yourself (eg Work, Bob etc.), now click on OK.
| Step 5.
| The last step in setting up your mailbox for use is to set it as the default account. The account with '(default)' next to it is the one which mail messages are sent from. So to send mail from your newly set up mailbox it needs to be set as the default account. You should now be looking at the 'Internet Accounts' screen again, simply select the mailbox want to send from and click on the 'Set As Default' button. Now click on Close
| You have now fully completed the set up of you mailbox, all that needs to be done now to use this account is to let people know this new address and click on 'Send and Receive' to pick up your messages. Good luck!
